need a little more info before anyone can make an attempt to help, Mike...

just noticed the line in your sig about pulling log trucks out... 4-lo is a wonderful thing, but the best I've been able to do is help the occasional skidder out of a nasty hole or two (just about ran my a$$ over for my trouble). :)

what more info do you need i know it sound like timming but it a dis system so i give up hhheeeeeellllllppppp.

When you say that it would "keep running," do you mean that it would "diesel" (that's when the engine would sputter and cough and run rough after you turn off the ignition)? Or do you mean the engine would just continue to run after you turned off the ignition? There are many possibilities here: bad tank of gas, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, ignition switch, etc. That's the kind of info we need.

the only way to keep it running is to play with the gas pettle but it enging sound so bad i dont want to start it. it not a hammer like it the engine it scrod but just pinning and clanning as if it was firing the wrong spark plug at the wrong time.

I had a '99 3.0 and it was crap!! I had the same problem and I had to take it in three times before they called the engineers at Ford. The problem is the timing and if you find a good mech who know's what he is doing he can reprogram it for you. I found a Ford mech who knew about the problem and reprogrammed the cpu(2 trucks before mine). Took him 2 days, but it ran fine after that. Sounds to me like you have carbon deposites and I would check your spark gap. Also listen to it 2500 to 3500 while accelerating for any chattering, that will be your timing problem. Another problem that you might be having is with the injectors and that is a whole other ball game. When I got rid of my 99, it had a bad injector problem that they could not fix. It was so disappointing I really don't want to get into it.

I should have seen that lemon coming......

All I can say is, trade up before it's too late! =)
What I mean is, trade up to a BETTER Ford! =)~

By the way, did you get hit in the front or rear?

sorry, another after thought...check the timing chain as well if you feel up to it. If not, definitely have a mech do it.

Matt

once again...lol

If you were hit hard in front, you might have jumped the timing chain. Look into it.

it wa hit in the front and it was hard enuff to bend the fram but the enging was not hit

OK, so what you're saying is that it's running rough, but not that it keeps running after turning off the ignition, right? Has it just recently started doing this, or has it always done it since you've had it? If it just started doing it, think about what you may have done to the truck just before the symptoms started. For example, did you just put gas in it? You may have gotten a bad tank of gas. Did you just change the plugs? They may not be gapped properly. Did you just change the plug wires? Make sure they are all going to the correct cylinder. Is the Check Engine light on when it runs rough? If it is, see if you can pull the codes off of it. Start with the basics first: check the plugs, wires, air, oil, and fuel filters, clean the throttle body, pull the negative battery cable and reset the computer, and try a carbon flush. If everything looks alright, then start checking things like timing chains and injectors. I do agree with 2001ExpSport though, if it was hit hard in the front, the timing chain is a very good possibility. Especially if that's when the symptoms started.

peace
