Ive managed to do all of the following:

1. Removed caliper, pads and clips
2. Removed rotor cradle/bracket
3. Removed cottle pin, lockring, outboard washer and bearing
4. Removed grease seal and inboard bearing

Theres one last piece on the old rotor and I have no idea what it is. Obviously the new rotor doesnt have it. It looks like a slotted disc that is pressed on to the rotor but I dont know how to get that sucker off. I think Autozone may have given me the wrong rotor. Heres a pic:

looks like the abs/vss sensor ring
one question, this is a 2wd Explorer right?

My Ford manual doesn't show that piece. Compare your rotors with other ones for a 2wd explorer.

edit: It is a Front brake Anti-lock Sensor indicator 4x2 Ford part #2C182

you didnt get the right rotor for your ex. Mine is a 2wd and has those same rotors in the front. That is a ABS sensor wheel. You have to get a rotor that already has that sensor wheel installed.

Yup, wrong rotor. I took it back and got the right one. Of course they cost more...

Those two bolts that hold the caliper cradle/bracket in place are so hard to get off!!!

Anyway, everything is back on. New rotors, new pads, new hardware, new grease seals, new grease. Works great!!!
