I just installed a new engine and manual tranny from a 94 ford ranger and since i was an automatic i used the clutch line from my wrecked 96 ranger and a master cylinder from an 89 bronco 2. But as i was driving to work my exhaust burned a hole in the clutch line so i bought a new one for a ford explorer from Napa because they didnt sell any for rangers. And i went to connect it and it just slides in and out but doesnt snap in and stay. Is there any difference between ranger and explorer lines or stock and aftermarket ones. Sorry for all the writing but i just wanted to include as much information as possible.
Thanks for any help

Rangers and Explorers shared the same Mazda manual transmission during those years. Did you maybe mess up the fitting at the slave when you disco'd it?

Nope i had to buy a new slave cylinder and throwout bearing and the line wouldnt fit into the old one either. Im thinking its for the other model tranny. If i cant find one on here or the junkyard i'm gonna have to buy one from ford but it's almost a hundred bucks.

It was a two wheel drive with the 2.3l engine but that cltuch line fit perfectly until headers burnt a hole in it. I'm thinking the one that napa sells isnt made for the m5od. I went to the junkyard today and pulled a hose from what i believe is a mitsubishi trans(it had a pan) and it looked the same as the hose from napa which didnt fit.

Well i was able to sand down the fitting a bit to make it fit but i think i blew my tranny. I was in fourth gear and i downshifted into third to go through a yellow light and when i did the rpm went to redline so i shifted back into fourth and it did the same thing so i pulled over. But when I put it in gear and let off of the clutch, it sounds like the gears are grinding and it doesnt go anywhere. And it does that no matter what gear you put it in. Do these trannys have a problem with this or did i just buy a bad tranny.
Thanks

I am dealing with this very same issue. I just installed a used M50D from a salvage yard into my 1992 Ranger, and when I went to reconnect the quick-connect fitting, it just slides in and out - I cannot get it to lock into place. I examined the two connectors, and aside from the replacement being brass, and the old one from my truck being plastic, I cannot tell any difference.
Any help would be VERY much appreciated!:rangertan:

Turns out the clutch shattered, I went to pull the pressure plate off the flywheel and peices of the clutch came falling out.

Yea there are two different slave cylinder/clutch line combinations depeding on year(alot of people dont know this but obviously me and you have found out the hard way). There is a gold/brass colored diconnect and there's the black one.
You can use this at your own discretion but if your quick disconnect fitting is black then the O-ring portion of the fitting is bigger and is going to have to be ground down just a tad to fit into the slave cylinder. I did this to mine after my exhaust melted a hole in my brass ended clutch line and napa only sells the black one. Which one do you have?

The Brass/gold fitting is in the truck at this moment, I have to try to fit the black male end into the gold fitting. So, If I file the black male end a bit, I can get it to slide into the gold one on the slave cylinder??

Sorry I should have been more specific the male end is the part that comes in two different colors. But yes if you file the o-ring end(remove the o-ring first lol) it will slide in. Also if you keep trying to force it in you can see exactly where its hitting at.
