Help for a buddy

Hey guys got a question. I don’t have an explorer anymore but my buddy from school has a 97 Explorer 4x4 and needs help with it. Now unfortunately I don’t know a whole lot about it but here it goes...he has done some work on it trying to get it road legal. Now I guess he had the trans lowered but not completely taken out because he replaced the engine. The engine is out of a 96 and he put that and the brain box in his 97. But since then his check engine light has been on and the over drive light blinks when he goes to back up and the car also bucks. The code that came up was po707. He got that part and put it in and it still didn’t work. So at this point this is where he stands and is now looking for help. Any help is greatly appreciated like always. Thanks. I would advise stripping the donor engine down to block and heads and put the old wiring, sensors intakes and ancillaries on it and use the old ecu. There are often differences in the harness both to the ecu and to the transmission. Assuming everything was fine in the old motor then it should work fine.
