1998 Ranger + 41 Ford Pu
Hi,
I am in the process of using a 1998 Ranger as a platform to build (transplant parts) from a 1941 Ford Pickup. I have the engine, transmission and cab mounts done and now need to hook up the drive line. The Ranger differential is offset 2" to the passenger side, and I am hoping to find a Ford 8.8" rear end that has the differential centered because the old Ford flat head engine and transmission are centered in the chassis.

So, can anyone suggest a rear end that has a centered differential (yes, I know the old 9" rear ends are centered). The Ranger specifications call for a rear end with 58.50" between the mounting surfaces for the wheels ..

Any link to the specs for Ford 8.8" rear axles would be appreciated.

Thanks
Jerry

From what I can tell the Explorer is offset, and the Bronco and Mustang are not. I don't have absolute confirmation as I've only found the info in one thread so far.

Welcome to the forum.:chug:

Never noticed the offset. So much for powers of observation, and I've had it completly apart. Think I'll check that to see if its true. How do the Mustang guys looking for a little stronger rear end use ours if ours are offset and theirs are not?

Not questioning your info, just wondering.
