Our North Face has just decided not to start, the engine is turning over and sparking etc. The breakdown guy suggested it might be the fuel pump or a fuel cut off valve.

Is there a fuel cutoff on explorers? Can anyone suggest a way of proving that it is the pump ? Or any other thoughts as to what the problem could be?

It doesn't help that here in the UK very few mechanics have any experience of Explorers, and parts need to be ordered in advance.

Cheers all.

Adie

p.s. Is it right that the fuel pump is in the fuel tank?

The fuel cutoff switch should be located inside the vehicle, on the right hand side under the dash, near the transmission tunnel right at the upper edge of the carpet. I don't know if it may be located differently on a right hand drive vehicle; the location I described above is for US and Canada (left hand drive).

The fuel pump is inside the fuel tank, which is standard practice for Ford fuel injected vehicles.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've checked the fuel pump fuse and relay as well as the fuel reset (cutoff) switch and found no problems.

Unless anyone can suggest any other tests it looks like it'sinto the dealer for a check.

Cheers
