Hey guys, i need help,
as soon as i put my headlight switch to parking lights i blow fuse 11 under the hood. so my dash lights and parking lights are not working.
i searched for answers and tried a few things;
* new headlight switch and dimmer
*unplugged trailer light pigtail and checked wires.
*new bulbs in rear
even with no bulbs in, dash unplugged, GEM unplugged, i still blow the fuse!
any suggestions is appreciated!
Thanks

****Found it!*****

well i checked all the relays in the relay module, all good, all the wiring i could get to, all good.
was about to give up then decided to try something i thought was completely unrelated.
my liftgate is in pretty rough shape, its rusted through all along the bottom, so i thought id practice my bodywork and welding skills and do a good patch job, so i got a temporary replacement liftgate from a 96 while i take my time with mine.
well, thats what was shorting out my fuse! the wiring to the defrost and wiper must be frayed, i unplugged that connector and all is well!
thanks to everyone for the advice!

Where is the relay module for a 98?
could it just be a bad relay?
thanks

New lights, new switch, it's likely that funny colored spaghetti in between. Your headlamp relay should be in the box under the hood.

ive checked the wiring leaving the headlight switch and as far back into the dash as i could.
i read a few posts about a relay module that contains the headlight, dimmer, and parking light relays.
can anyone confirm this, and give me the location as well?

thanks for the replies!

Most of your relays will be located in the fuse/relay box under the hood. If your frying fuses I'd say more chance of bad wires somewhere than the relay, the relay just acts as a path for the electricity telling it where to go. To test pull the head light relay and pop another matching relay from your a/c slot or whatever, if it still blows you got a wire problem.

thanks for the reply,
i dont have a headlight relay in the underhood fuse box, thats why im asking if there is another location for relays (other than the one under the air filter)
ive seen a diagram that has relay box #4 by the left rear wheel near the RAP
i just want to make sure its not as simple as a bad relay before i re-wire that circuit!
thanks again

Unless you have autolamps, there is no headlamp relay. However, there is a park lamp relay in the relay module which is in the center of your dash / console area.

thanks Budwich, yes i do have autolamps.
ill take a look for the module tomorrow.
thanks

okay... then the headlamp relay is in the same module area. I suspect that you will find a short going to the module from the headlamp switch so trace the wiring from the switch along the way / under the steering towards the center of the IP / console.
