jack the rear of the truck up higher or lower it down till they fit back into place... It is still going to take soem effort to push them back into place so the bolt can go through the eye easily but most the time you can pound the bolts in with a rubber mallet.
Im stumped. I have never had this much trouble isntalling something on a vehicle, especially just leaf springs. I worked on the x again today and tried everything. I rased the frame up to see if i could get the spring to reach the axle, it did but the bolt still not even close. The spring bolt is to the left and front of the axle spring pad by about 1.5 inches forward. I took off the tire and tried to drop the axle on to it and still off. I also tried a combo of both raising the x and lowering the axle. I cant even get it close enough to put the bottom pad on aligned with the bolt hole and u-bolts. Any help is appreciated. i am all out of ideas and need to get this done cause its my daily driver.

I have the spring attached to the frame front and rear. I cannot get the centering pin to line up with the hole in the axle and i can also not get the U-bolts and spring pad aligned. Also if it helps i am doing the drivers side, the passanger side still has the stock spring attached. Thansk for the help.

ok one of the problems is you need to put both new sroings on and leave the bolts loose at all the mounting points including the shackles to the fram as so you can move the spring inward if need be to line up the centering pins to the axle.
Then once you get the axle down on the cintering pins attach the u-bolts and and snug them down, and proceed to tighten up the leaf spring mounting points including the shackles, after than go back and really crank down on the u-bolts holding the axle to the leaf springs.
But I think you main problem is that you only have one of the springs in which is causing a difference in hieght from one sring to the next which will not let the axle set onto the spring completely flat.
ok, thanks. Ill give that a try tomorrow after i get off work. The help is greatly appreciated, and Im sure i will have more questions for you.

Had some spare time last night to work on the X. I got the other rear leaf atached at the hanger and shackle and loosened all the bolts. Tonight im going to line up the leaf pin and attach the u-bolts. It looks like it will be a heck of a lot easier to do this way. I dont know what i was thinking trying to do it with one spring still attached.

reviving an old thread. But I had the same problem happen to me today with not being able to get the my leaf springs in with an add a leaf. I was doing one at a time and couldn't get the u-bolts back on after trying for 3 hours and running to oreillys to get new u-bolts thinking that was the problem. Finally I just gave up and put on my temp leaf springs from a 4dr that i got at the junk yard. Make sense though about the axle not sitting properly because the whole time I was trying to get them on I kept thinking why is the truck so unevenly lifted if i have the jack stands at the same height. I only managed to actually change the rear stabilizer bar links after a total of 5 hours. I dont know when I will muster up enough will to try em again but I will definitely try and do em the way thats described here.
