I have a 99 limited explorer 5.0L AWD MAC intake, catback exhaust, and taylor wires with motorcraft plugs. Saturday I was driving from AZ to San Diego and I was going through the mountains when the check engine light started flashing for a while then stopped and I noticed immediately a loud constant knocking noise coming from the wngine maybe the top front im not really too sure though. So I stayed in San Diego for 2 days and came home without further incident. This noise is constantly there warm cold start to stop, Oil level is good no loss of power and no codes stored in the computer, I have been told it could be a rod, piston rings or maybe a pulley tensioner in the timing chain. PLEASE HELP im driving to NY in a few weeks and need this taken care of.

Codes

I tried to but the computer didnt store it. Thats why it seems weird that it flashed for a bit then went off. If I could get that code then I would probably have my answer, unless you know another way to retrieve the code if so please advise I would appreciate it.

Scanners

ok so where do I start then I talked to the dealer as a last resort and im gonna have t pay em 80 bucks for them jokers to look at it. Its not the money that im concerned about its the fact that those guys suck and they try to play everyone for fools.

COdes

Oh I had it scanned at a shop and autozone can only scan if the light is on
