I took off my throttle body and i adjusted the small screw on the bottom for a little better idle, and afterwards i found out that this part here circled in blue is screwing up, i tried readjusting the TB and it still idles @1200 RPM, so what is this part circled in blue? when i unplug it my truck idles fine.

iac ...idle air control ..this is what acts like a choke of sorts .it allows the engine to start and have that smooth idle that many fuel injected have when started cold .if you took the tb off ...i assume you unpluged it ..did you dis connect the battery before doing anything ? if not then i'm betting that if you left the batt connected up and started unpluging sensors then reconnecting them back then the trucks computer is a getting wrong readings ...try to take the postive cable off for 20 minutes then re-connect the batt then you'll have to wait till the truck relearns everything and soon the idle will be back to normal .and also you may want to put that screw back to it's setting before you messed with it .

just 4 days ago i took my iac off and cleaned it because of some issues and after reconnecting the sensor and batt it took the truck about 2-3 times of starts for the idle to be where it should be .

tb looks go tho !

thanks i appreciate it, i'll try that and keep u updated

no problem

Sometimes the IAC will also get stuck. If it continues try cleaning it with a carb/throttle body cleaner(remove it). if that still doesn't work try tapping it with a hammer(that will free it sometimes as well)....

i think i forgot to mention

it was -5 degrees when it started acting up

m'yeah..... i would think that subartic temps would play a little havoc on a nice smooth idle .

if you've reset and reconnected everything and started the engine several times to allow the computer to re-learn the idle and still haveing high idle problems ...like bloodbane said that somethimes the iac can become stuck and sometimes tapping on it will free it up .....useally this means that the plunger inside the "coke can section of the iac" needs to be cleaned or
the motor side of the iac is slowlly dieing and just needs to be replaced . yours being a 91 i bet it's seen better days .

if your idle is still high after a couple of times of starting the engine then i would take the iac and test the voltage to make sure the unit is working properlly and if it's good then take it off and give it a good cleaning .....

real simple to do...just 2 bolts to take it off. get some high evaporative electronics spray cleaner with a tube and hold the unit MOTOR SIDE UP and spray the plunger inside in a downward fashion from the top port then go to the lower port and spray down .let as much of the cleaner drain out of the iac ,then geta air compressor and dry out the rest (while still holding the iac motor side up) .

once it's all dry ( completly dry) then re-install it then reconnect your battery and go through the several starts thing i mentioned .

:bsnicker:...lol , easy now ...when i got mine i was most likelly worse than his
hehehe ........ get a towle and some armor all and a can of "meguires insane wet tire shine " ...de grease the engine ,spray that off let it dry. then get armor all and wipe it down ...let it dry ....then hose the hell out of it with the tire shine ...that stuff works so well it will actually keep dirt from drying on it and just every now and then just hose off the engine to get it back to that new factory finish :p:.......that what i do to mine works good so far .

note on my iac : after i cleaned it a couple of days ago i ended up painting it black ...sorry no updated pic on that tho.looks good tho

DUDE I WISH MY ENGINE WAS THAT CLEAN, HERE'S MY ENTIRE ENGINE:

OK, MAYBE JUST THE INTAKE.

 yeah that meguires insane wet tire shine does a good job.hardest part after i de-greased it was wipeing everything down for about a hour .

yours don't really look all that bad just looks a little dried out , i'm sure it would shine if you got a little time to spend on it .

cost fora 3 hour drive to va....... plus materials ...plus beer.....plus anything else i can think of ( cough ) = 5 million dollars :p: lol

but really if i was to do that for someone i would charge at least $30 :D

I'm a Virginia Tech fan, and Virginia Tech is in Western Virginia, right down the road from Radford actually, and people get it confused, they ask "Why don't they call it West Virginia Tech?"

.....CAUSE IT'S NOT IN WEST VIRGINIA!!
