We have a problem with the wifes Explorer folks - last Sat whilst out driving we heard - and felt - a big bang from the drivers side front of the vehicle and saw something black bounce in the road behind us. Assumed at first we'd had a stone thrown up by the tyre - but then noticed that the charging light had come on and the steering had gone very hard. We were only a mile from our destination so carried on and checked it there. Opening the bonnet we found the serpentine belt pushed over to one side and the idler/tensioner pulley that sits below the alternator had disintegrated. The RAC brought us home and the car went into the garage on Monday, AM for repair.

Now the fun starts,

So far the main Ford agent has delivered two different parts, neither of which have been correct. The mechanic is trying to source a part but is being confused by the Ford agent who are telling him it's an Australian import...Doh!!!
It's the UK spec Explorer as sold in the UK by Ford with the 4.0 V6

Question I have is - has any one else in the UK had this issue and if so - do you know the correct part number for this pulley???? Or do you know where I can get the correct part

When I changed mine I got one from www.rockauto.com only took three days to get here and was a perfect fit. If you really get stuck I still have my old one or you could try those great guys in south wales who advertise on ebay.

Looks like you want motorcraft part number F77Z6B209AA

Hope that helps.

Thanks Howard - have passed that number on to the garage doing the work! :)

Had mine replaced by Ford sevice centre in Southport .part came next day.

I know about that one, I spent nearly an hour arguing with an Ford employee, who told me that I drove a Ranger.. one of the new ones.. the one based on the Mazda BT50.. because.. "That's the ONLY 4x4 they've sold in England"

I've just started breaking the other one tonight, so I'm getting all the bits that might go wrong and then the rest is going the scrappy, if anyone wants anything, they are more than welcome to come up and see what they need..

Si
