2003 Ranger 4x4 xlt
:( Hi everyone,

I am new to this but I have no other recourse. I have a 2003 ford ranger 4x4 4.0 sohc manual. The problem first started when i lost my tail lights and brake lights. The back up lights worked and the third light would not work either. All the fuses are ok at this point. Then I lost my blinkers and 4-way lights. I got those to work again not sure what I did. It was in the fuse box though. But then my instrument panel quit working. But I still had blinkers and 4-ways. Now it won't start at all. It just clicks. I have interior lights and my head lights work too. Is there anyone out there that might be able to steer me in the right direction. Thanks!!

Try a new battery.

Actually, before that, check your battery connections both at the battery and at the other end of the wires (chassis and solenoid.)

You can enough power/connection to power your lights and not be able to start the truck (the clicking...)

2003 ranger

I recharged the battery and have no problems with the truck starting. But I still have no instrument gadges that work. All the fuses are fine. I am wondering if maybe it has a short somewhere and how i would go about tracing it???

Oh and also i have no tail lights brake lights. No fuses blown there either.

The brake light, try checking the brake light switch on the brake pedal. They often go bad.

Ok .. that might be the problem with the brake and tail lights...but what about the instrument panel...There is nothing working there. The fuses to everything is fine. Ughh...sorry this is so frustrating!!

the explorers connections on back of instrument panels have been known to quit working.... at least to me... i have personally fixed mine 3 times so that could be your problem there...

A few possibilities:

  • Check the ground wires bolted to the driver side inner fender apron (under the hood about halfway back).
  • Check the ground wire bolted to the floor under the carpet under the front of the driver seat.
  • Look under the truck to find a large square electrical connector near the transfer case (directly below the driver seat). Remove the center bolt to open it and check for water and/or corroded pins inside.
  • Recheck fuse 33 in the underhood fuse box.
