Well..I went to do some work on my rear suspension and had the leafs almost off but got to the bolts on the front hanger and found those babies glued in there solid. The bolt had apparently rusted solid to the metal inside the bushing so when I turned the bolt..it turned the entire bushing! I managed to back of the net of the passenger side so I guess I can just keep banging the bolt with a sledge until it breaks loose, but how about the drivers side with the gas tank in the way?

someone whos swapped out their rear leaves or did the bushings and ran into this help me out..how to get the things to break loose and bang the bolt out? Should I just take the rig to 4Wheel Parts or a 4x4 suspension shop and have them gank the bolts for me or just say I want THEM to put in urethane leaf spring bushings for me (heh, heh)

Thankfully I only had one bolt do that, but it was next to the gas tank. Tried everything...WD-40ish stuff, banging on it, cursing at it and told it, its mother was a screw!... still didn't work. I ended up using an angle grinder to cut off the head and pounded it out the side. Severe pain in the A$$! I wouldn't think the shop would be bad just to break them loose and they have air tools to get it done quick. Just make sure to buy the replacement bolts to replace them in case they break.

woohoo

glad to hear I'm not alone..

I'm curious how you mean cutting off the bolt head would help..since you can only hit it out towards the outside of the truck with the gas tank in the way..or did you remove the tank or find some other way I'm not thinking of? I'm pretty sure just removin the gas tank and exhaust would let me get up in there with a 50lb sledge and wail em loose in just a few swings..:D

I actually tried my impact with the bolts but my compressor didnt have enough power I guess...I already have 14mm bolts and nuts too so I'm just waitin to get the bolts loose...thaz why I'm thinking goin to a shop with some 200hp 1000psi compressor might do the trick..

I just fought this battle last saturday..

Grinder, big hammer, punch.

cut the nut off, take big hammer, hit punch, scream bloody murder every time the punch goes flying and you hit your hand..

We tried impact; wouldn't budge.. We tried air chisel; wouldn't budge. We found turning the bolt with a big ass 1/2 socket wrench will pounding on it made it come out.
