I have a Kicker KX1200.1 Amp that's going to be used to push 2 Kicker L7 12 Inch Solo Baric subs. They are 4 OHM woofers. I needed to know what amp kit to get. I'm looking at quite a few on this sonicaudio website but I'm not sure which I should go with. Is a 15 foot power cable good for our SUV's to reach from the battery to the back of our truck or do I need a longer cable? Also, is 4 gauge suitable for this amp and for this setup or do I need 2 gauge? (not even sure if the amp can take 2 gauge)

Someone please help me out! Thanks!

Also - how many amps should the fuse support?
Most of these I see are for 60 amps.

I had 15 feet, and it was just enough. I ran the wire down the opposite side of the battery though, so if you run it down the same side, you will have more than plenty.

4 ga would be the minimum I would use for that large of an amp. I would probably go for larger wire though.

from what im told is 2 gauge probably wouldn't work on my amp? anyone know if this is true or not? I have a Kicker KX1200.1 mono block amp.

you could use 2 gauge but you would have to get an adaptor or power block to run the two gauge into and then out to the amp. Or use an adapter from 2 gauge to the correct size for your amp terminals.

What I'm saying is if the amp isn't necessarily meant to use 2 gauge then why not just use 4? And if the amp only supports 4 (without having to mod it) then shouldn't 4 gauge be more than enough and good enough so I don't have to spend the extra money? If I had the extra money I'd honestly not be driving an Explorer to begin with but that's another discussion in it's own...

that amp should take 2 gauge no problem. IIRC 4 gauge fits in there very easily with plenty room to spare. It can draw around 150A and that is pushing the limits on 4g wire.

Knukonceptz 1/0 Amp kit

I would get that and then run it into a 1-0-2-4 distro block with a short run of 4 gauge for power and ground. Then when/if you get another 2/4 channel for the fronts/rears its easy.

Thats me though. :)

I'll get a 2 gauge then. I'm not sure where I'll get the kit from but it's going to be an audio shop because I don't feel like waiting on shipping. I have EVERYTHING I need now other than the amp kit to install both Kicker subs, and my amps etc. Well... outside getting a 200 amp altenator (which I plan to get in the real near future)

:D 4 gauge twh stranded which is what you need is rated for 80 amps conti. now i dont care what anyone says i''ve been a elect. for 7 years you are reading the max that your amp can pull at any one moment and thats at 14.4 volts you have 12 maybe with out a capacitor and voltage regulator if you run two its over kill think about it 160 amps going to your amp that only leaves 40 for your headlights, radio heater a/c, gauges, its just not gonna happen use a 80 or 60 no larger no smaller fuse and four gauge and you didnt state whether you have a four door or two, two 15 ft you will have about three ft of play down drivers side, four you will be two ft short so get 18 ft and you should be able reach anywhere in your truck good luck and turn it up!!!!!!!!! :D

you should lay 0 gauge now and a distribution block- you will add another amp later to power the front and will likely eventually go even further with your sub amps. You may as well lay the groundwork for upgrading the first time.

i would use mobilespec (but i may be biased)

as for length- i say 20' and use the leftover for ground- just to be certain.

0 gauge is $3 shipped per foot

you'd also need maybe 5' of 4 gauge

running a short length of 4 gauge from a block into the amp will not reduce the draw the amp is capable of pulling through the cable.
