recently went through the rebuilding of a 4.0L sohc motor.WowW what a extra bunch of crazy! to add insult to injury, I fired the motor last night, took right off, new oil pump and lifters, good pressure, ya no how sometimes after a new lifter set in stall it takes a few mins to quiet all lifters? well driver side wonderful passenger side, not so much. It sounds as if the pass side is not getting the sufficient oil it needs. thought it coming from oil filter relocation or passage plug but noooo!Oil is coming from rear tensioner bolt, I put a new set of stem seals and replaced few bent valves... I have a few wild ideas but thought to throw problem out here before chasing my tail!

thank you!:(

leak or noise?

I don't understand your symptoms. Are you saying there is "valve lifter noise" or that your hydraulic tensioner is leaking oil? The cam followers that determine lash are hydraulic. If you didn't prefill them with oil they take up to 30 minutes of driving at engine mid-range before they quiet down. If all of the followers on the passenger side are noisy then it's possible the cam oiler tube is broken. The mounts are flimsy and easily break when hit.

Did you use the special tool to compress the valve springs to remove and install the cam followers?

If the hydraulic tensioner is leaking and you installed the compression ring it may have dropped out of position when you screwed it in. I use wheel bearing grease to hold it in position when installing the tensioner.
