Hi -

Every so often, my daughter's 06 v8 will stall for no apparent reason. It always happens when the car is at very low speed, the steering wheel is being turned, and most often the brake is being applied. Basically when you are backing into the driveway or parking at a mall.
It almost sounds like power steering is choking the engine and making it stall, but steering is good, no whining, no leaks. I took the accessory belt of, spun the pulley and it was rotating freely still pumping the fluid. I also removed the reservoir and cleaned the mesh filter at the bottom of it.

It sounds like idle speed control valve but the 3 valves don't have one, do they ?
Now, I just removed the throttle body and gave it some cleaning but it was pretty clean since I did it not too long ago.
I also think about the MAF sensor, but again, no codes.

Any ideas ?

With no codes getting thrown it is a head scratcher. Have you considered something related to fuel pressure?

Hi, I hooked up my Forscan, no misfire, fuel pressure is about 39. I keep driving it and runs prefect. I can't recreate it or get it to throw a code, Looks like my daughter gets my F150 for now while I drive my old baby and make it do it again with some hints.....
I thought about torque converter not unlocking when coming to the stop or shifting gears, and stalling the engine.

Is it idling low when not turning the steering wheel?

Idles normal 600-700 rpm

I looked at some 06s and they had bad wiring/insulation issues under the hood. It is kinda of a known problem. Causes random symptoms.

Thanks 96, good suggestion but I think I fixed all my wiring hot spots in he past. This isn't some lose wire.

I almost was able to replicate it:

Picture this - when in park or N, it idles at about 650. When you shift into R or D, the engine naturally dips into 500 rpm and then quickly recovers.
If I also start turning the steering wheel in the "prefect" moment right after I shift to R and the rpms are dipping into 500's or lower, the extra load from PS pump dips it even more and stalls the car. I was never able to stall it completely but was very very close. On my other Fords, it was the job of IAC valve, but from what I read the throttle body controls that on the 3 valve motors ?

Early electronic throttle bodies also had issues. Another ex I looked at the owner said he just replaced the TB, he had the old one on the seat. Very common item with an aftermarket. It is actually inexpensive from Ford. Check also for vac leaks, pcv, etc.
