Hey All,

I have a 91 4x4 XLT 4 Door as my Name says :).

My dad has a 98 Mercury Mountaneer and after driving that for a while I don't like coming back to my X because of its lack of good handling compared to my dads.

I am wondering what you would reccomend doing to improve the handling of my X? I dont go off-road a whole lot, here and there.

New Shocks maybe? I know the ones I have are just regular duty shocks, nothing special.

If I should go with new shocks how hard would you say shocks are to install? What special tools if any would I need? Any reccomendations on what shocks to get? I dont have a whole lot of cash to be spending but want some better handline.

Well thanks for you help.

There's a good chance you Ex will never ride as well as your dad's. His has an independent front and you have the much maligned TTB. I would check Explorer Express as they have a good selection of on-road suspension parts. Certainly new shocks will help and you might even look into some new springs. If you don't plan to do any serious 4 wheeling then I would suggest a poly bushing set for the front end. Good luck.

I went with the Explorer Express X Spec suspension on my '99, oh what an improvement. The installation is at Dead Link Removed

Check their website at http://www.explorerexpress.com/ to see whats available for your truck.

Good luck and keep us posted on what you do.

Hey guys,

Well I dont want to do anything that will make my truck completly street and no offroad.

I do on occasion take a trail or two, but its Very mild stuff compared to what I see here, nothing major.

I looked at the Handling kit at explorer express. The one with the swaybars and Rancho Shocks.

1) Would this be a pretty good upgrade? I am mainly looking to tighten my steering up so its a little more responsive and thinking the shocks would help it have a more off-road type of ride, its too mushey in the suspension for me.

2) How hard would this kit be to install? I have never done any major install work on my X, some smaller stuff here and there.

3) What would this cost approx. to have installed do you think?

Thanks for all your help guys.

-Matt
