To get to the point, after hooking up my PXDX2 aux box to my stereo, it seems to drive my CD changer batty. It will work for a few seconds as the AUX source for my MP3 player (Sansa), but then the entire stereo goes into a state of insanity. It kicks out of AUX, back to FM radio, and the CD changer consistently whirs and moves internally as if moving/shuffling CD's that ain't there!!! Then the stereo powers on/off on it's own.

The only way to stop the madness is to pull the PXDX2 box out of the harness cable, toggle the radio power on/off a few times, and then the radio resumes a "normal" state.

I have played w/DIP SWITCH settings on the PXDX2 box, but nothing has helped. I am using the Peripheral recommended settings: 123 on, 456 off, 78 on, with ON meaning those switches on in the "down" position.

I am stumped, and nearly ready to chuck this whole idea. I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone else who has had this problem or has been able to resolve it.

Thanks in advance all.

Peripheral support

Emailed Peripheral and according to the facts, it is their opinion that my PXDX2 device is defective.

I am sending it back to the Ebay seller for exchange.

What a friggin' bummer...

Letcha' know how install number 2 goes.

Man, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I'd be willing to bet you it isn't defective. I went through two of them before getting the straight scoop from Peripheral. You didn't mention if you had the factory navigation system but if you do then you are dealing with the exact same thing I went through. I would have aux. sound for a maximum of 30 seconds before everything went crazy. Peripheral told me it sounded like it was defective so I got another one and same exact thing. Come to find out on Mustangs and some Explorers they knew there was a problem but they felt like it was rare enough that they were comfortable going ahead and stating that the PXDX2 is compatible. Personally I feel like they should have mentioned this before I started dealing with it but oh well. I'm working on a way to have my head unit re-programmed with the same software as the 07+ that have the factory line-in and then I'm going to wire my own aux. input in. I'm hoping it will remedy the situation and be a lot more stable than the Peripheral junk.

Ham,

That sucks! I confirmed my settings are 123up/on 456 down/off 78up/on, so that does not sound like the issue consistent with what Peripheral said.

Double check the part # on the harness also if you haven't already... the site where I got mine was discountcarstereo.com and they sent the PXH2FD1 harness for Ford which worked but there's a Toyota one that they might have mixed up and sent? That site has some additional info on compatibility which also might be helpful. As long as you have the separate AUX button I think it's supposed to work. Good luck with #2!

Wow!!

For the record, I do not have a Navigation system in my O6 Explorer. Maybe I am a complete idiot or something, but by "NAV" system, you do mean a factory system that includes a screen for GPS navigation? If so, then I definitely DO NOT have that.

(If you mean that little compass doo-hickey behind the rear view mirror that displays your position ( "SW" , "NE", etc) near the odometer, then I do have that. But I get the feeling it's not this.)

I have a 6CD changer system, with AUX button, and "MP3" label on the face plate just below the CD slot. Given these specs, and EVERYTHING I have read about the PXDX2, it is supposed to work!!

That would be a ballsy move on Peripheral's part to put out a product and advertise it to work on specific specs, when they know it doesn't work on 100% of the vehicles they propose that it does. Is that even LEGAL???

We'll see what happens, I guess, but thanks for the head's up.

Ham - I had that same unit in my truck. The MP3 label is because you can fill a CD with MP3's and your radio will recognize and play them. You can get like 100 MP3's on one CD. It also allows you to place them in folders so that you can organize your songs. There is a thread in here somewhere that shows how to burn the CD correctly, there IS a trick to it.

MP3s on CD

Yeah, thanks. I was aware of that. I really don't want to do that legwork cuz you still have to burn CDs and manage your library via your computer (which tunes are on Car Tunes CD1?, which tunes are on Car Tunes CD2?, etc).

That would kill the point of dumping thousands of files/tunes on your DAPOC (Digital Audio Player Of Choice - yea I just made that up), AUX-ing into your car stereo and cranking away!

I only mentioned the "MP3" tag on the front side of the HU, because all over the Internet, that seems to be a pre-qualifier for compatibility with the Peripheral PXDX2 box. While were at it, also Ford "CAN-BUS" is a qualifier, but I have no idea what the hell that is.

On other notes, I am still going back and forth with Peripheral support. LAst question from me was: Can a portable Sirius Sportster unit/antenna (I have this) interfere with proper operation of a PXDX2??

(No answer from Peripheral support...yet.)

Sirius Sportster NOT the problem

Peripheral support stated that the Sirius Sportster would not interfere since it is using FM modulation, and not hardwired into the stereo. I thought so, just wanted confirmation.

I am shipping the PXDX2 back to the ebay seller I got it from for an exchange. I am hoping for the best and will follow up on install numero dos.

peace out..
