was driving the explorer today noticed that when started you would have to crank it twice to get started when it started idle was low and rough about 500rpm this afternoon driving home on the highway the engine lost all throttle response would idle at 500 but when you accellerated very rough non responsive rpm's would not come up i had installed a kkm on wed of this week and hadn't had any problems till today don't think that is the problem to get the truck home we had to restrict the intake air flow by blocking off the inlet between the filter and the maf half way engine then idled better and revved with the accelerator drove it home still wasn't right but decent got home and changed the fuel filter the old one was very dirty my father inlaw said he'd never seen one that dirty black colored fuel in the filter when we tried to start it after that it was worse than before and blocking off the inlet didn't seem to help as much any ideas as to the problem haven't check fuel pressure yet and don't know what the factory requird pressure is suppossed to be don't know if it is the fuel pump, maf, pressure regulator or something else any info is greatly appreciated thanks

Pump maybe. Check fuel pressure. If you suspect the maf...unplug it and take it for a drive. If it runs better with the maf unplugged.....well you know the answer. But do a fuel pressure test. The filter could have been so plugged that it made the pump work harder till it said ''To hell with you!!!!!!!" and just failed out.
But what is a KKM????

KKM is the Kurts Kustom Motorsports either whole kit or airbox/filter replacement. http://www.kustomz.com/ here you go

fixed it thanks for the info a friend of mine called me this morning and told me to check the maf pulled it out and found a small piece of rubber lodged in the maf filament looked like a piece of flashing from the k&n filter what are the odds of something like this happening huh anyway it runs good now got a friend that works at the ford dealership he said the mafs are very sensitive on these newer vehicles wonder why they don't have a screen over them
