I have a 93 Explorer that runs great! However, a few months back the alternator died, and I got it replaced. That alternator appeared to be arced, and the battery gauge would go anywhere from 8 to 14 when idling (after I would drive to school (3 hrs approx) park it, get back in, and idle). So I replaced that alternator and the positive battery terminal. The wiring was corroded apparently, and I thought I had everything fixed. The engine stopped tapping and making weird sounds, so I was happy. All my problems seemed to be fixed.
Today, I decided to test out the new alternator, and drove up to Bank of America. It ran great. As I was leaving, the car's battery gauge dropped to 8.5, the car rumbled and shook horribly, and the engine appeared to be shaking uncontrollably, this, mind you, only in idle. The alternator stopped charging as I was driving and stayed right around 8.5, and I took it to another shop so they could look at it. A mechanic messed around with it, accelerated it in Drive rapidly, and it never charged. Then the engine made a lunging sound and now it charges again (mind you the gauge is lower)...it'll probably do it again later...
...please...help...
