Need some help. I have a 93 XLT 2WD (I know big mistake). But my question is this...I want to give it more of a rugged look other than "A glorified grocery getter". I want to lift the whole truck but do not have the cash right now. Is there a way I can lift the front to match the height of the back end? Any suggestions would be great!!

Thanks,
Mike

Hey Mike, you do have some options for a 2wd truck don't think that offroading is a 4wd only thing. Lots of baja runners are 2wd. Anyway depending on how much height you need to level the truck you can do a few things. For up to 1" you can put a spacers or several spacers under the front coil springs, that is only for 1" though. you will absolutely need an alignment after any mod to the front end. the other option you have for leveling the front more than 1" is longer coils. There are several makers that offer coils from 1"-2" of extra height , James duff has a 2.5" kit but it is a full susp. kit. - i think it would make the front higher than the rear.

hope this helps.

Hey Mike,
Throw a Detroit locker in the back of that little puppy and you'll be able to go places you never though you could. Dead Link Removed

Hey Dodger, Thanks for the reply! I have thought about the coil spacers. My concern is this..1st do they damage the coils by spreding them apart? And 2nd how does it effect the ride? I'm affraid that it will make the ride rough as hell. I have looked at new coils and leaf spring adapter but just don't want to dish out $400.00 right now before the holidays. Anyway thanks for the info!!

Ray, thanks for the reply! What is a detroit locker? Does it have something to do with the rear dif? I have the 4.73 limited slip dif which I was told was very good for traction for a 2wd. I have lived in Germany for the past 4yrs and now in Colorado and have never had a prob on the road. but then again I have never gone off road or any place to ahve fun. What does the set-up run and what will I gain?

Thanks,
Mike

hey mike, wlecome for the reply, just doin our part right, second did you mean 3.73 or 4.10 gears? those are the available gears for your truck. also the coil spacers i am talking about do not spread the coils, they go under the coil to push the whole thing up, mine are made from a high density polyethylene 3 or 3 1/4" outer diameter with a 3/4 or 1" hole in the center, i believe the stud is 3/4 but there is a nut down there so there needs to be a hollow or divit of some kind to cup the nut..... anyway i think superlift sells some that are 1/4" thick you just stack them. they don't affect ride quality cause they use the oem spring and don't spread the coils.

not to steal ray's thunder but, a detroit locker will definitely do wonders for your 2wd, yes it goes in the rear differential and provides equal traction to both wheels when the situation calls for it. it will unlock around corners so as not to make it unmanageable. good luck and have fun

Dodger, you are a big help! These spacers that you are talking about, is it something I have to order or are there some parts stores that carry these things? The rear dif in my truck is a 3.73. I thought that was good. I dont do any off roading other than to get to a mountain bike trail. Would this Detroit Locker be worth the money?

Ok, that definitely helps move things along. no if you don't do much offroading i wouldn't spend $300-550 on a locker. like i said i believe superlift makes these spacers in 1/4" thicknesses . you could get them from a superlift dealer, or call a dealer that advertises in a 4x magazine. and finally 3.73 gears should be fine for your use, if you were to get significantly larger tires you could use 4.10's but you should spend your money on performance upgrades , build a badass street explorer,... or buy a 4x4 , just kidding.

have fun, dodger

Hey Dodger thanks, I will look up a super lift dealer to get the spacers. Thanks,

Mike
