Hey everyone. I must first say thank you to everyone that adds to this great forum. I am pretty quiet when it comes to forums, computers etc so I have never joined however I have been coming to this forums for a long time an always helps when I'm in a bind.

However I may be searching incorrectly and if so a link to a perticular thread would be great for the following question I'm about to ask.

I replaced the rear main today an while I was in there replaced the seal on the tranny too however I'm fighting with getting the transmission.remouted to the engine. I'm using floor jacks. I have 3 of them. 1 under the engine for support and 1 under the tranny. I can't seem to get the transmission closer than 1 inch to the block.

ANY advice would be so much appreciated. I have never attempted anything a tranny pull an reinstall but I'm low on funds and can't afford 800. Also, I started this yesterday hoping I would be done by tonight for work tomorrow and have about 10-12 hours in this so far and I'm only 55% of the way.

Again, any links to other threads or advice will mean so much to me. Thank you ALL!

I forgot to add something very important, it's a 2004 sport trac 4.0 2 wheel drive.

Sorry? Am in freak out mode

you must make sure that the torque converter is fully seated in the transmission first,,
if it is seated fully it slides in further than even with the edges of the bell housing, and than there is enough room for the flywheel inside the bell housing as well.

i would say that distance is the you 1 inch lack in making the surfaces mate properly,

it's a bit tricky to mate them when the trans is almost in place as you cannot lift the converter evenly most times to get it to engage the pump properly,

I gotta agree with Corkey. If it's a manual transmission then I'd say the input shaft splines aren't lined up perfectly not allowing the trans to get any closer. Good luck and keep us posted so we can help figure it out.

It's an automatic. Also the torque converter clicked three times when putting it back in. This piece of info may help as well, I have been able to get the two long bolts in the bottom of the tranny all the way tight to the block but of course that left a 1-2" gap on top. So I loosened them up again to try to et the tranny pushed flush with the block.

On a side note: when I put the torque converter in and then the flywheel, got the tranny back together and ready to move forward to the block to reinstall, a pretty decent amount of tranny fluid came out from the bottom of the bell housing. ( maybe a half a cup or less) Is that normal?

Thank y'all so much for helping me out. It's great to see people willing to helps robe in a time of need. I promise to pay it forward!!

torque converter is not seated into the trans all the way. Hold on to the pilot of the converter and spin the converter witht the other hand while pushing in it should engage on the input shaft and slide in..if you dont you will wipe out the front pump of the trans. When its all the way in the ends of the studs should be at least a inch inside the face of the Bell houseing where are you located maybe someone could help if we are close.

Should the transmission be forced in to the motor or should it go in smoothly am I looking to line any gears up in there or is the the torque converter the only thing that bolts that needs to line up I don't want to break/bend anything But also wondering if I need to put a little elbow grease in it. Is there an easy way to line the motor and transmission up using floor jacks?

I have taken the torque converter off and receded it to make sure that nothing is leaking and also to make sure that it's in there it is click three times is there a trick to keeping in place well I move the transmission back to the engine so as to not displace the torque converter so I don't ruin anything?

Sorry for asking so many questions but you guys are being a huge huge huge help
