For anyone interested...
I have now replaced my auto hubs with Warn Manuals. It stopped the loud popping, thunking, and intermittent grinding/buzzing noises all together. $285 for parts and easy to do yourself.
However...
After I got those major noises cleared up I noticed that I still had a "not as loud" popping sound when I turned with the front axel locked wether or not I was in 4x4. Along with this was some front end vibration with the front axle locked (4x4 or not). So I went to the local shop and found out I had 2 bad front axel "U" joints. Which I had replaced for $250 and some change.
Now approximately $550 later the only noise I notice when the front axle is locked (4x4 or not) is a very slight "raod noise" like sound. I think at some point I may be replacing an axle bearing or two but that can wait till spring.
