Hi all,

In case you couldn't tell, I need help!

I replaced plugs, wires, IAC, and washed the air filter.

It has been sitting in my garage for a while, like a month. I have been very busy.

I started her up, and everything was fine.

Allowed her to idle for a while, then took her for a spin. That's when things went from bad to worse.

I went around the block, and when I gave it gas, nothing, unless the rpms are high enough.

Also, a sucking/wistling sound, which got more aggressive the more gas I gave it.

Then, when I come to a stop, and the rpm get low enough, it turns off on it's own. Great.

So I just got back and placed the stock IAC back on, and the same result, only this time, it won't idle where as last time, when I started it for the first time, it did.

Plugs and Champion Double platinum and are gapped to spec.

Could it be that I got the firing order messed up with the plugs? But this wouldn't explain the wistling sound...

Should I try resting the battery again now that I threw the old IAC back on?

Please, I am desperate!

Thanks!

oh and no CEL either.

If you are hearing a whistling sound then thats probably a vacuum leak, which would make it run poorly. Did you take the intake hose off at any point? If so make sure its put on correctly and all the clamps are tight, also look to see if you accidently unplugged any of the other vacuum hoses.

I agree that you've pulled off a vac line while doing the plugs. Did you put a new gasket on with the IAC?

Great advice! Yes, I did take the intake hose off. I am going to do that right now.

Also, I noticed that it smelt like fuel when I had my head underneath the hood while it was running

I will have a looking...

yes.

I had another look through, but can't find anything.... hell!

Any idea how I can find vaccum leaks?

Anything would help.

Thanks

A better question to ask is:

How likely is it what I have damaged a line? I don't recall doing so, and most of these line are rubber are they not?

Thanks

Did you by any chance forget to tighten one of the plugs?

On the 5.0 V8 drivers side about 6 inches forward from the firewall hidden in between the two fuel lines above the valve cover. There is a large vacuum line that requires a rubber plug. I had the plug blow off on back compression on a rich start. The engine would struggle ... no throttle up... major hissing (sucking) noise.

Follow the noise...put your finger between those fuel lines and feel for the end of a tube. If there is no plug and your finger covers the hole you will hear the vacuum stop and the engine pick up.

If this is it you may find the plug on the valve cover... I did.

Hope this is your problem.
