I have just brought a manual 96 xlt. It has no reverse light. I have the reverse light switch replaced and the wire checked, but still no reverse light. Then, I searched the forum and found the following thread(Thanks StuckinMA for the pictures and detailed description of the problem):

I believe that my car has the same problem: the pin that presses the reverse light switch when the transmission is on reverse is missing. I went to the local Ford dealership. They told me the pin was called plunger but they didn't provide it anymore. And I couldn't find one in the junkyards. Explorer was not very popular here in Australia. I searched on Ebay and couldn't find it.
Now, I am stuck here. Without the plunger, the car does not have reverse lights. Without reverse lights, the car cannot pass the inspection.
I am posting the message here in the hope thatsomeone here has a spare plunger and is willing to sell. That would be great. Or I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me the length and diameter of the plunger. So, I can make one.
I couldn't post the picture of the plunger, but you can see it very clearly in the link above where it is refered to as the "pin"
Thanks in advance!
