Hey everyone. Can someone give me a fairly detailed description of where the Oil Pressure Sending unit is on my 94x? I'm getting all over the place Oil Pressure readings and I figure I minest well just spend $6 on the OPS first and see if that does the trick before i start shelling out the big bucks.

Thanks,
Pablo

It is on the drivers side of the motor.. towards the front.. Kinda under the power steering pump.

Also...
The oil pressure sending unit on stock explorers is a two state switch. 0-5psi reads 0 on your guage. 5+ psi will show normal. IF it is moving around then you have an electrical problem.

The causes for the eratic oil pressure guage on our X have been the following:

Lose/bad ground on teh battery.
Melted/shorted wires under the hood (they were laying against the exhaust manifold.. and caused the guage to read off the chart while it was shorted)
Broken/lose wire between the sending unit and the guage (causes the guage to read low then normal etc)
Broken OIl Pressure sending unit (Center part, where the wire connects to the sending unit was bent/broken)

Those are all the things that have caused the problem on our X.

There is a long thread on "fake oil pressure" guage on this site if you want to convert your 2 state guage into a real guage.
