Guys, clear tail lights are illegal in all states!

You MUST have RED reflex lenses on the side and back per FMVSS 108.

Check this web site, it has the full text as well as explanations as to what is legal or not. also check out the Recall tab!

who cares..so are clear corner's..it's there truck they can do whatever the hell they want to with it

Sure they can do what they want. I'm just saying it is a great way to start a conversation with a State Trooper and possibly shell out a $C note.

Just trying to save someone some dough.

I had that conversation last Friday morning, lucky for me it was just a warning.;)

did u note that it said that its illegal cause it had no red reflectors. i have four strips of reflector tape on my bumper just like that new lexas suv has.which from what ive been reading aslong as it shows up red and has red reflectors on it its legal. thats y the lexas can get away with it.

Here's how I see it

There are several ways to look at it.

1. You can just put them on and if you get stopped, claim ignorance,

"I was so excited when I got them, I didn'd read the label. Can you let me off with a warning and I will put the stock ones back on tonite?" (that's what I said Friday morning)

But don't make any ancilary attempts at compliance (reflective tape), that would indicate you might have suspected they weren't legal and were trying to get away with it.

2.Shell out the big bucks for compliant 'Altezze style' lights and request a 'Photometric Compliance' certificate from the manufacturer.

3. Put them on and attempt compliance with reflective tape or adheasive backed reflective lenses hoping you won't catch the attention of Joan/Jonnie Law.

If you try to fight it in court, expect to lose unless you can certify Photometric Compliance with the Soicety of Automotive Engineers (SAE) standards for that particular piece.

Every time I re-read FMVSS-108 and some of the other documents linked on that page, the more impossible it becomes.

I think it also says, if the OEM assembly contains all required lights/lens' in a single piece, the only compliant replacement must also have all required lights/lens' in a single piece.

On my '94, the lens is stamped with (2)A1RST-90BO

This translates to;
2 Reflex lens' SAE J594F (I'm assuming 1 side and 1 back)
1 Backup light SAEJ588
1 Stop lamp SAEJ593c
1 Tail lamp SAEJ586

I don't know what the 90BO means.

I'm still researching this issue cause I din't want to shell out $230 for Altezza's and I don't think they would look all that good on my '94

   :banghead:  :banghead:

haha well if you dont want to shell out 230 ill sell you mine for cheap. theyre practically new, PM me.
