If this has been covered before I apologize, I couldn't find an applicable thread.

My wife just got her new leased 02XLS and the kids got her a replacement CD/Tape/AM/FM stereo for Mother's Day. The only problem is, HTH do I install it??

All of my other Explorers have the "removal tool" holes in the faceplate and are simple to remove. The 02 radios don't have this feature and the method for removing the surround to access the radio in the car isn't readily apparent.

Anyone know the secret for getting at the radio mounting??

Thanks in advance.

James

The dash panel around the radio is held in with clips. You have to carefully pry it of. There are 2 screws that hold the radio in.

Thanks for the reply Brian. I've already installed the radio utilizing the mechanic's favorite tool. Brute force!

I kinda' figured the surround _had_ to come off by some means and the judicious use of a couple of small putty knives did the trick without marring the surrounding dash.

radio removal

Hey JHEM, where exactly did you pry at with the putty knives? I as well am going to replace the factory radio and could not figure out how to remove the old radio

Between the padded dash and the hard plastic surround. There are friction pins at 10 and 2 and 8 and 4 if you think of it as a clock face.

James
