My g/f's ABS light is on in her '96 Grand Cherokee and the ABS isn't working. I'm assuming it is a sensor(s), but don't know much about it. Any tips on troubleshooting. We've got some nasty weather here in Mich. and I'd like to get them fixed for her.

Thanks for any input

Since it's a 96, it's OBDII compliant so you might want to take it somewhere that can scan the ABS codes. I know for a fact that Autozone's scanner can't read those codes. Have you checked her brake fluid and the fuses for the ABS?

It does have fluid, but I didn't check the fuse. The ABS light is on most of the time, but not all the time. I'll check them tonight, but I don't have high hopes.

So you think I'll to take in to get scanned?

Thanks for the help

It wouldn't hurt.. Most repair shops have the good code scanners. I've got an autotap PDA based scanner that reads all sorts of codes, the only bad thing was it cost $250.
