i have had an annoying problem for a while now. whenever i come to a stop, right before the exploder stops completely i get a crunchy feel in the brake pedal and it pulls slightly to the right, just enough to turn the tire, but since im already going fairly slow not enough to make a huge deal about it.

anyways, this morning i was driving and came up to a stop and realised that it finally didnt do it. i looked at the dash and saw the ABS light was on. so i was curious and popped out the fuse for the ABS, and what do you know... no stupid crunchy crappy brake feeling and i stopped just fine. i then realised that by taking out the fuse that it stopped my speedo and then after a while my check engine light came on so i put the fuse back in.

anyways, what can i check for in the ABS system that would cause this? im assuming its something to do with the front right tire's ABS equipment since it pulls to the right.
id like to see if it is something simple/easy to do on my own before i take it to the dealer since i purchased an extended warranty on it and supposedly the complete ABS is covered by it.

Hi Take,
I've got a 95 XLT that had a similar problem with the ABS coming on at nearly every braking instance. I just recently had the brakes done and while we were under there we noticed that the front bearings could use replacing so back to the parts store I went. The bearing hub assembly cost $170ea and comes with the ABS sensor wires connected to it. After turning the rotors, replacing the front brakes, replacing the hub assembly et al the ABS problems are gone. We suspect that all the rust around the rotors was interfering with the ABS sensor and by cleaning up the rotors that it was what specifically corrected the problem but your milage may vary. If cleaning the rotors up doesn't solve the problem you might look into replacing the front bearings like I did which costs around $350 for parts.
Hope helps.

Matt

tekem,
have you solved this problem yet?? I am having the exact problem also, and it started after i put a 3" spindle lift on the truck, no abs light, but it pulls right and abs engages just before i come to a complete stop. please let me know what fixes it. Thanks.
