Hey im in the market for a sound system. I am looking for 1 nice 12, or 2 10's. I need some help on what is available used on craigslist and what i can get used online and what i can afford new. I have an off brand amp that is rated at 500w. I doubt that so id probably use it for the front speakers.

First, my door speakers. Should i go comps or 6x8? If i go comps should i go comps plates? or 6.5 comps and mount tweeters somewhere.here is what i have found.

pioneer 4 way 6x8s - $45
Infinity Car Speakers 6by8 - $35

If you're looking for a budget setup, you can just get an inexpensive (but brand name)$100 receiver, put in a set of the Infinity speakers (maybe use the stock speakers in the rear), and power a 12" sub with the amplifier.

5x7/6x8's will make for an easier install and cost less. If you're worried about what you can afford, you probably don't want to mess with components unless you find a deal.

You can of course put the Infinity speakers in the back if you find a set of components to use in the front.

I got my adapter plates from this dude: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=310125806733

great price and product. If you're willing to drill a couple small holes in your Apillar, you can run the tweeters there.
Here's what I did:

I did make my own MDF baffles because they're thicker and allow for my comps to sit better.

You could also just find a set of 6.5" coaxials and run those and should net you a bit bettter mid-bass than ovals.

Of the subs you posted, I'd opt for the Kicker CVX if you wanted a single sub.

my main worry is is what is better, 2 10's in a ported box, 1 12" L5 in a ported box.that cvx is a little much for my range. Looking for subs and amp for $200

edit: misread earlier

That's a tough one. Are you really looking to pound or just have enough bass? The L5 is a good sub and you'll have room left over in the rear.

the main aspect you need to focus on is the enclosure for your woofer or woofers. That will make or break ur results. If you can build ur own enclosure than ur a huge step ahead of the rest. Dont waste ur time with prefab boxes from the stores, theyre crap.

my dad does construction and used to build his own boxes way back. i know im wanting 2 10's or 1 12 but idk. Its so hard deciding, i guess i just want the best deal for the money as its my first time buying

it'll be your first time buying..not your last ;) haha

I have never ran anything different than stock in the rear of any of my vehicles. I have been a pro installer for 10 years now. I only change out my fromts for a nice set of components.

To achieve a good sounding stereo on a budget here is what i would do.
1. deck with atleast 2 preouts (sub control if possible)
2. set of 6.5" (or 5.25" if money is an issue) components. With the seperates you will get a much better sound than you will will with a 6x8.
3. build your own box (sheet of 3/4" mdf, not particle board or plywood only cost 20-30 at a home depot). I prefer to build a sealed box for my own listening that is due to i listem to all types of music from rap to rock to country. With a sealed box you will get the bass hits and rolls in rap music, and the punch of the bass drum in other music.
4. i like a 4-channel amp. i use the front channels of the amp to power the components, and the rear channel for the sub. I use deck power for the stock rear speakers since they are only rear fill.

I agree ^^ I always used a 4 chan amp with better speakers in the front and fu*% the guys sittin in the back seat cause it aint me!

The 10's will hit a little faster from what I understand but your talking about alot more box to take up cargo. I need cargo not sure of you situation though. I had the stealth box in my old explorer and was very very happy with the end result it was enough for me. Maybe not for you though so I'd tell you to go with either your 2 10's or a good 12.. I know some people love 12's but I've always liked how the 10's aren't as deep, a little faster and just I think produce a crisp bass punch. Just my .02

what about the kicker L5 and a visonik 1200w amp? i can get both for around $150-$170

what's it for? subs or comps? I say it's worth the price for a budget build provided it works.

it would be for my subs. My current crap amp for the fronts. its running 1 12 at 600 w or 2 10's.

i gotta admit...that last part doesn't make any sense to me. Do you mean that amp you wanna buy would be for either one 12 or two 10's? That amp would suit that L5 much better I think.

yea the amp at the pawn shop is the one i would use for the 12 or 2 10's

what headunit do you have?

atm its stock but im looking for one. Is that really a priority if im amping my front speakers?

id say its more of a priority. I cant say for certain as I've never ran both off a stock HU. Always went aftermarket.
Im not sure how many line out converters you'd need or if you can run more than 2.
