Speakers: $69.99 mb quart components (5.25"), mb makes a great speaker. this is more of an entry to mid level speaker. but will be a great speaker for the price.

4-channel alpine amp $209.99

kicker comp series 12" subs: $99.99 (buy one, get one free)

So a total of $555.00 you will have yourself a good sounding entry level system that all your buddies will like. (and not playing with cheap pawn shop/craigslist used equipment that who knows the actual way its been taken care of)

thanks for the help but i am on a tight budget and if i had $550 then it wouldnt be a problem. i have mostly worked out what im getting and am waighting for exact specs from the craigslist seller.

you could also check on the other audio forum in the classifieds to find a HU there...

If that is the case, do it in pieces. in the long run you will happier to have a piece of mind knowing you good a good deal, and good name brand equipment.

I have seen the cheap stuff be more of a headache sometimes. I am saying this to let you know. i have been a pro installer for 10 years, everytime someone would come in with "cheap" stuff more than likely they come back because it goes bad.

my order would be a deck first. then speakers (i would do just 6x8 or 5x7 if you dont plan to amp them), then amp/sub.

hwy i found another local person selling 2 12" l5s for $135. Should i just buy them and sell one so i can put one in a ported box? how much could i sell one for? $70-$80?

have you factored in your power wire, speaker wire, RCAs and all that into the price too?

Only thing i need to buy is RCA's. I can get 0 gauge wire free.

and the amps you're looking at will accept 0awg?

idk but i can get any amount of any wire for free, so it really doesnt matter

so im getting the 2 kicker L5s for $140. But there DVC 4 ohms. How would i wire this up to a mono amp? and what would the final independence be? 1 ohm?

I agree ^^ I always used a 4 chan amp with better speakers in the front and fu*% the guys sittin in the back seat cause it aint me!

The 10's will hit a little faster from what I understand but your talking about alot more box to take up cargo. I need cargo not sure of you situation though. I had the stealth box in my old explorer and was very very happy with the end result it was enough for me. Maybe not for you though so I'd tell you to go with either your 2 10's or a good 12.. I know some people love 12's but I've always liked how the 10's aren't as deep, a little faster and just I think produce a crisp bass punch. Just my .02

what you understand is incorrect.

Subwoofer size has NOTHING to do with how "fast" the speaker will "hit".

18's are just as "fast" as 10's.

What you understand is just a myth among many noobs

well i bought the L5s today. They came in a duel chambered sealed box. There not 4ohm like i was told, rather 2 ohm. Meaning i can only wire them down to 2 ohm. So no i gotts find an amp that does 1200 @ 2 ohm, or sell 1 and wire 1 down to 1 ohm.

A great option that Id personally definitely 110% choose if I were you would be to use 2 of the brand new Sound digital SD400.1s. Rated at 400rms @ 1 ohm but are far more efficient than other 400 watt amps out there so you will get more power. Their 12000 watt amps are putting out 19 000 watts in my friends setup and their 8000 watt amps are doing over 14 000 watts in many other setups around the world. These amps are absolutely amazing fully innovative power that comes in a super small package. This SD400.1 is absolutely tiny! When I say tiny...I mean THIS TINY!
sd4001.jpg

Amp dimensions are only 5 1/4" X 6 7/8" X 2 1/16" tall. One of these per woofer running at 1 ohm and you would be absolutely set! Also to make it even simpler these little bahemoth amps are strappable. Which used to be only reserved for high wattage SPL amps but now the better companies such as SD who listen to their customers are making every amp strappable that they can. So with the amps strapped they function together as one amp making things a bit easier. And another thing to top it off...this are class D FULL RANGE amplifiers. If you wanted to later on run say 8 sets of component speakers in ur doors these two little monsters would do it and sound great doing it. NOT TO MENTION A 5 YEAR WARRANTY. These things are only $199usd shipped each. Id highly highly recommend them. I know the north american rep quite well through talking with him online since last summer and he knows his stuff!! Plus if you later wanted to sell one woofer you could offer them a combo deal with an amp which people are always looking for due to their lazyness.

Or you can always find an amp that will run 0.5 ohm daily. Look for a sundown 1500D used...should be able to find one for cheap.

Most good 1000 watt or 1200 watt rms @ 1 ohm amps will play daily at 0.5 ohm if you keep em cool but more importantly if your enclosure is designed based around the idea that the amp is playing on the verge of going into protection.

Look into amps from orion (older all silver 1200D play 0.5 ohm daily), memphis, sundown (1500d), hifonics, autotek, stetsom (1k6d-2ohm), cactus sounds, digital designs, soundstream, american bass.

But I do highly recommend the sound digital amps theyre quite amazing. I assure you they are no scam no BS numbers no trick pictures. All of their amps are remarkably small due to the technology they use being completely different power wise than other amps on the market.

If you're interested in the sounddigital amp please PM me and Ill send you in the right direction. (im not a dealer of SD if it looks like im pushing their product as if I am)

sundown is a great product. i run both subs and amps in my car. however i wouldnt run them down to .5 ohms (or any amp for that matter) unless his electrical is up to par. they also have an SAZ-2000D coming out that you could wire down to 2 ohms. jacob the owner had a presale on that but it's over now i believe. and still might be out of your price range. why not get 2 smaller amps?
