i just go a dual media head unit out of a 2000 (?) and the wiring harness (97 x) doesnt match up. i have it in the 99 ranger for now, but i bought it to put in the x.

do i need to go to a junkyard and find a wiring harness to remove out of a later model x or what?

please offer some advice my wife thinks i really dont want her to have it.

thanks guys/gals.

You should be able to get a plug that plugs into the radio from a stereo shop. You can also get the plug that plugs into the 97 harness. All you would need to do then is wire the 2 plugs together and plug it in.

What was in your X before? If it was the standard tape deck, or radio, the harness has to be upgraded to a high series one.

You could get one from a junkyard, and splice it into the old wires, but some radio features might not exist in your 97 wiring(like steering wheel controls).

our radio is the factory radio with cd changer controls. it doesnt have steering wheel controls (just as well my wife worries me when she drives:eek: ).

when i get some free time and money i will head out to a junkyard and find a harness.

i'm assuming that i can just cut the harness about 6 inches away from the plug on the donor x correct.

thanks ya'll
(cant tell i'm from texas can ya'?)
