So the button on the liftgate to pop the glass hasn't worked in years. It does work if I use the remote, so it isn't the solenoid. I bought a replacement button, took the chrome part off the back (with the button and License plate lights in it. Disconnected the old button and connected the new one, still didn't work. The multimeter reads 5.25 -5.5 V when I checked the connector. Anyone have an idea on what to try next?

My first thought would be to trace the wire back. Your Ex has a 12V system - no real reason for Ford to choke the voltage to that switch. Having said that - I'm confused why the remote works and the switch doesn't unless there are separate wires. Do you have a 12V battery laying around? I'd be connecting it to the switch.
