I have a check engine light on a 2002 merc mountaineer with the 4.6 v8. Initially i had one DTC code come on with the 0171 code. I took a good look for vacuum leaks and noticed that I had a split hose on the PCV line. I replaced the hose and got a new PCV valve today and cleared the code with my scanner.
Right after went for a test drive and the check engine light came back on. This time I had 2 DTC codes showing, a 1152 and the other was showing as N/A. I have a cheapo $15 scanner and the first time I scanned I got briefly the 0171 code, but after I rescanned the code was coming up as N/A, dont know why, Im assuming its the scanner.
Anyway, I will got to Autozone to see if the can verify the 0171 code, but like I said it showed up the first time. I understand what the codes mean, but was wondering how I can get a lean condition in bank 1 and then a rich condition with the 1152. I am going to systematically check different things to rule out. At this point I dont think its a vacuum leak. MAF looks clean and undamaged. Was going to check fuel pressure, injectors etc, but was leaning more towards oxygen sensor malfunction. What does everyone think, any other things I should look at?
There are no other sysmptoms at this point. Car seems to run good, wife mentioned it was shaking a bit on occasion while stopped at a light, but havent come across this all day today.
