Doesn’t run due to hole in piston, so I’m weighing my options:

1) Swap the motor myself
2) Part it out
3) Sell as is

What I have is a sell AS-IS price that shows potential buyers on how I priced it (so they don’t think I’m crazy)! Thanks for any input – DW

It's worth $500 as is.
If you have the means to swap the motor, then that's probably your best bet.

Thanks for your input. I think it really depends on where you live. I see many similar explorers that need major work, but are in otherwise good condition go for $2,500 out here in CA. The Cats alone for CA are in high demand. Thanks again! DW

No one is going to pay the going price for the all of the parts.

The only way you will get anywhere near that is to part it out yourself.

Yeah, parting it out IS an option, it's just my location that would keep people from buying parts. I live in the boonies. -DW

If someone will pay that price where you are, go for it.

Down here you can buy one that runs for half of what you're asking.

The main difference between CA and all other states is CA is so strict on emissions. You can only buy used Cats if it is on the vehicle purchased. It is illegal to sell used Cats alone. Also, unless you fill out a NON-OP form, you cannot even sell your vehicle since the seller is required by law to SMOG the vehicle. I won't go near a vehicle for sale where the seller says "you smog it, not my problem." That's a sure sign it failed. I will only purchase vehicles (that run) when seller says "Have SMOG certificate in hand. -DW
