Here's a dumb question

How in the world do you get the spare tire down from it's mounting location under the truck??? As you probably know, it is hanging under the truck, it looks similar to the setup on my 88 GMC 3500. The GMC has a hole in the rear where you put a crank in and crank it down. I don't see anywhere where it lets the tire down, and the Haynes manual is (once again) no help.

Please help, I feel like a dummy on this one.

There should be a rod in your engine compartment real close to where the hood prop rests. It is almost as wide as the engine bay. One end of the rod has the proper socket to reach though that little hole in the back and the other end will let you crank it by hand. Hope that helps.
