what Cerwin Vegas are you talking about? strokers?

in the catalog i got it says cerwin vega vega. they have 800 peak power with 76-400 rms range with freqency of 20-500. they are 200 a piece. any other 12" sub suggestions that are cheaper that bump nice would also be considered. what amp am i going to need and do i hook up the amp to the headunit

buy them here. the price is a lot better.
get the dual 4 ohm voice coil subs. then you can run them together @4ohms mono.

just get a good amp that puts out 800 watts RMS at 4ohms mono. and it has to be hooked up to the headunit or it wont make any sound.

what exactly are the voice coil
btw will the box matter much? seems like a pretty good one, not top of the line
what are the cheapest amps that will do the job

the enclosure is just as important as the speaker. a $1200 sub will sound like crap if it's not in a good box. the box shouldn't have any air leaks, and should be braced well. also the walls of the box should be thick enough. i recommend at least 3/4" MDF.

i think the best thing for you to do is to go to a real car audio shop. buy your equipment there, and have them install it professionally. that way it will sound great, and you wont have any problems. i dont want to see you burn up an amp (or your explorer).

how about best buy? and also what kinda amp should i get and what vegas were you talking about

i dont recommend getting anything installed at Best buy, Circuit city, etc...

go to a real shop. not a nationwide chain where highschool kids that took a 5 minute crash course about installation work. when you go to the real audio shop, they can show you what amps will sound great with any subs. you can also listen to them there, they might even have a demo car to sit in.

which were these vegas you were talking about and what amp would power emm

Vega 12D (dual voice coil).
if you run the voice coils in parallel, it will make each sub a 2ohm load. then wire each sub in paralell to create a 1ohm load. then you could use the Audiobahn A275HCX amp to power them @1ohm mono. you could get the amp for around $300 (some places are less).

these?
HED-12DVC 12" Dual 4ohm HED Subwoofer $79.99
or these
Vega 12D4 12" Dual 4ohm Subwoofer $129.99
