Hey all. I need help.

Two things are going on...1) my temp gage is pegged to the ice cold side. Hell, its not even on the cold to hot scale. its 3/4 of an inch below the cold marker. What the hell?

and 2) why do I need to hold tension on the spring to acces the 3 bolts to take the thermostat out?
