Welcome!
The 4.0L and the 5.0L Explorers can be very reliable, but a lot depends on how they were previously maintained like any vehicle.. The v6 version has a 5r55e (5speed auto) transmission that can be problematic if neglected or used to tow in OD. The v8's and there trans are a bullet proof combo. Aside from normal age and wear related problems they are good trucks. And the best part is that Explorer Forum has great contributors and write ups for anything that might pop up.

welcome

This is true of the SOHC, introduced in 97.

You have the OHV with a 4 speed. Its a solid car. I had a friend who had a 95 v6 with 220k on it before it died. As far as fixing things before mods, give it a once over, change all the fluids, check normal maintenance stuff, and then have at it.

BTW, welcome!

Thanks guys, Yeah as for the routine maintenance it looks as if i have to catch up on that. All the fluids are black with the tranny fluid left aside seems to be very clean. The previous owner must have gotten the fluid done.

And also It is good to hear i have bought a solid vehicle well worth the money although with the age it did come with some problems .. The front end wheel hub and bearings were bad just replaced those, Very pricey at that lol and the upper and lower balljoints are in pretty rough shape and a majority of the bushings.
