Lizard,

Really like the manual t-case you installed - nice job. Which tcase is it? Does "Kressy" - don't know who that is - still have another for sale?

We all know the stock electro shift motors are ****, so can you shed some light on the details? I didn't know a manual tcase option was offered in 97? What mods were necessary to do the install? Obviously, some floor and carpet work, but what about the driveline? Did you need to lengthen or shorten driveshafts? Body lift required, etc? Would this be a direct bolt-on for a stocker?

I realize you might not be the best person to ask because of how customized your X is, but hopefully you can shed some light. I want a manaul tcase but am not ready to shell out the duckets required for a new Atlas and the other work required to make it work.... (PS: Thanks again Jefe for all the great info on the Atlas.)

Thanks!

its a BW1354, there was no manual case offered to explorers after '94 when the body changed. the mods you will need is getting the shifter through the floor, the rear driveshaft will be fine. you need to get a new front shaft from a 95-97 which should be a problem for you (i think) you need to have a double cardon front shaft, which means there is 2 u-joints going into your case as of right now. yes its direct bolt on, here is mine http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=94477 hopefully that will give you more insight.

Hey TarHeel, thanks for the reply and all the great info!!

My case is definitely on the fritz, but actually still working. I'm gonna use the time until it finally craps to decide my next move...

If I'm really lucky, maybe some new parts / adapters will be on the market, offering us more choices. If not, I'll most likely go 1354, unless I get an unbelievable deal on an Atlas...

Thanks.
