How's it goin everyone, I'm Joel. I've decided that you can only do so much creepin through a forum before you actually join. I have a 97 explorer xlt that I picked up for snow and winter purposes. I'm the type of guy that cannot leave a car alone, so I naturally was looking into subtle lifts and some good 31's just to be different around my town.

-anyone have any preferences between body lifts and suspension lifts?
_ My intentions are not planning any straight off road ventures, but just when the urge hits, do some mud wheeling on friends properties.

here's the little guy:

I ordered AAL kit cause my stock pack needs the refreshment.

This is my other car :) 2007 civic si sedan stroker 2.4l putting down 250hp to the wheels and 205 torque to the wheels

Pretty clean looking Explorer

fellow bay area native here. i fee like im one of the few guys here on the forum representing northern cali.

if you just plan on slapping 31"s, i think you can fit those with its stock height. if you would like to move up to something beefier, 32 or 33"s, i would suggest a torsion twist and shackles or add-a-leafs in the rear. there will be some trimming involved to get rid of the rubbing, but there are lots of how to's on the forum on how to get it done. i dont think you will need anything as extensive as a bodylift or SOA if you just plan on going for 31"s.

your best bang for your buck in terms of getting it off road is a good set of off road tires. my personal favorite, and many others on the forum (as well as with the jeep guys) is the goodyear wrangler duratracs. these are the best tires ive ever owned. other good tires out there are bf goodrich KM-2, general grabber at-2, cooper discos, and ive also run the pro comp extreme mud tires.

youre probably thinking that youll just be into the occasional mud session, but once you get your explorer set up properly, youll be exploring the wilderness in no time! good luck and feel free to hit me up if you ever need directions to a good wheeling spot up here in northern cali.

@ LONO100- great to see a fellow bay guy on here. I was just looking up the TT adjustment and Shackle lifts, super cheap and easy!!! and 32's are looking great to me! I'm excited for this explorers future.

@ BrooklynBay- thanks, chassis has 193,x.. but the engine & tranny were rebuilt and new seals about 45,x.. ago. runs really strong and it smogged almost completely clean
