91' XL
Hi, I just happened to stumble across this forum while surfing the web for advice on my 1991 XL. I purchased the truck 2-3 years ago for $750. It has the 5-speed manual transmission, custom intake and pretty much open headers. I have been in the market for a new car, but just can not let go of my 91' XL. I always wanted to modify it into the ultimate sleeper. The only problem is I can't kill it (the engine) and you all know the saying, don't fix it if it aint' broke. I have a couple minor things wrong with it and some body damage, but it is still a blast to drive. When I first got it my brother and I put Racing stripes on it (regretfully) and they discolored and when I tried to peel them off, some paint came with it. It is virtually stock except for the intake, but ruins civic S.I.s, Lexus IS 300s, Integras and all the other ricer cars I seem to have raced. I have also shat on a few BMW's and surprised new A4 1.8 T's and Volswagon GLI's. After the constant beating the thing won't die even though the 2nd gear synchro is almost gone...

I always wanted to put a crate engine in it, tub it out, lower it and get a tremec 600hd 5-speed tranny. The only problem is financial and the time and effort needed. Instead I may keep the 4.0 V6 and rebuild it and maybe boost it. Problem is that all this is custom, as far as i know, and would probably cost me around 10,000 not including body work.

$3500 for the engine I want, $1800 for the tranny, and other things I cannot currently price like a driveshaft, clutch, rearend, suspension, motormounts, exhaust and rims and tires. I am not even including the electrical system, cooling system, other necessities and exterior work.

I came to this forum for some help and guidance on where to find parts and for help in the motor swap process once I do it.

My ultimate goal is to be able to pop a wheelie (with slicks on ofcourse), but that is not an easy task.
