there's supposed to be a tool tray in the engine compartment?

yeah, its above the front grille covers the head lights and the area before the radiator...gimme a sec ill find where i saw it....

go to http://www.mysporttrac.com/mysporttrac/

then click projects, go to exterior appearance, then pick front bumper cover removal. you will see in the first pic there is a tool tray type thing in the area i described.

I've also spotted bits and pieces in pics of the tray in "engine dress up" (same category, same site)

Edit, it may be from a early gen explorer, i see on this site aldive has the tray in his 99. but i def saw one on a sport trac...

damnit now im on a misson to figure this out..

People call these indention's "tool trays" so I guess that's what they are ....... they DO keep your tools from rolling off.

yep thats the one, if i cant find one at a boneyard anyone know a part number or what the actual name is for it ?

well i don't have one lol, was it only for certain years?

Are those LED lights, and are the red and blue?

No, amber/white. Need some red/blue?

Where did you get those amber and white led setups? Have you got any vids of them in action?

I work for a company that is a distributor for the major warning light and police equipment manufacturers (Whelen, Sound-Off, Code-3, Star/SVP, Able2/Sho-Me, Havis, Setina, Go-Rhino, etc.) I'm able to snatch up some demo items when they change the displays or the demo cars. I basically keep the amber/white items and am able to pass on some big savings to those authorized to run red/blue.

Nah, no videos.

I need to get myself some of those of those just for ***** and giggles. I saw some on ebay.

The tool trays were dropped so Ford could save some money. :thumbdwn::thumbdwn::thumbdwn:

I thought they had stopped with the 03 models, but Pheonixx77 has an 02. Hmmmmmm.

'02 comes before '03 or at least it does in this side of the country, John.;)

When I was at the 2002 Myst meet in Louisville, I just remember one of the things the Ford reps were telling us that would be different with the 03 models was the lack of the tool tray. I guess they started that early. :dunno:

I have a 2003 XLT and have owned since new and do not have the trays. So defenitly not on the 2003 models

I just can't imagine a large savings after having to re-tool to make that panel without the indentions.........:( But what do I know.

who knows

I have a 02 sport and no trays would have come in handy while replacing master cylinder this sat. Not a good selling point for any vehicle that comes with built in area to put your tools while repairing vehicle; maybe another reason to exclude it on later models.:)

my '02 has a build date of 12/01... it has 'em. They came in handy last weekend when I serviced the engine and installed the new plugs... nice to not have tools rolling off the front or into the engine compartment!
