Hey guys, My name is Dawn, and Im hopefully going to be getting an '85 Bronco II. The only problem with it is that it wont pass SMOG because of the carberator (sp) If any of you know how I can fix this problem please let me know. I could really use the help. Thanx.

Carb probably needs a rebuild. That's where I would start. A rebuild kit isn't very expensive, but it may be a bit involved if you're not very mechanical.

Thanks, My bro's friend Nic thinks it might need to be tuned...is that different then having it rebuilt?
 






Yes, tuning the carb involves adjusting the mixture and the choke. You can give that a try, but a 20 year old vehicle probably has dried out gaskets, leaky needle valve and possibly even a leaky float. All common problems on an older carburated vehicle.

Give the tune a try, if that doesn't do it and your ignition is in good working order, and you have good compression, a carb rebuild may be what you need.

Like everything else, you have to work through a process of elimination.
