I'm a new guy with a 2000 Explorer 5.8 V-8. It set a PO102 code - MAF sensor.....Cleaned it and it did the same thing....kept setting the code, running rough, surging, bucking on the highway and occasionally stalling at red lights.
I changed out the MAF sensor... no change. Prior to doing that, I checked the "in voltage" which was near the battery voltage as it was supposed to be. Also checked the signal voltage at the MAF and it was well below specs. Went through the wiring from the power box behind the battery..... even changed the #4 ECM relay. No change. Talked to a mechanic friend and he said that occasionally a bad TPS can somehow set a PO102. Changed that and still running like crap !! Next I spent all afternoon checking the wiring to the ECM and following the color wires from the MAF sensor..... Still runs like hell....this might lead me to drinking (which might be a good thing !!!)...Another guy told me that a bad coil pack may "spike" voltage that affects the wiring to the MAF..Checked both coil packs and they check out OK with a meter.... all voltages WNL.
Any input would be great....I worked as a mechanic years ago and also rebuilt auto transmissions, so I know my way around mechanical stuff....But... this has me stumped. thanks... Jeff
