Hi everyone !
I'm new and I need urgent help . My problem is that where I live, I don't have the same qualified mechanics as in CA or U.S.
I'm from Canada but I live in Dominican Republic and it is very hard here to find someone qualified to fix a transmission problem and, on top of that, all imported goods are almost 3 times more expensive than in Canada or the U.S.
(ex: My explorer here is worth the equivalent in $ to : 16 000$us. )Imagine now , the parts to repair something on the vehicle ... Differential ... used differential ... 800$ !!!
So , I really need help .... Here is what happened ...

I have a weird problem occuring right now. It started 3 days ago. I have a explorer '99 limited edition 4L, 6V with 170 000 miles. I had the transmission rebuilt last year and everything was working fine. Then, 3 days ago, I had the differential (rear) replaced and, since then, i noticed that when i start driving, the shifting is fine but if I'm on the highway at about 60 mph and I reduce speed , The transmission won't shift back up to 5th gear or OD ( sorry, I don't know anything about mechanics ...) and the OD light starts flashing. If I stop on the side of the road, turn the engine off and go again , everything is back to normal until I reduce speed. Then , same thing happens again . It stays in 4th gear no matter what I do ( releasing the pedal , etc ...) . I went to the shop where they installed the differential and no codes shows on the scanner when they connect it. I even went to the Ford dealer here and no codes on their scanner neither.
( Have in mind that I live in Dominican Republic and they are pretty late in technology here so maybe the dealer doesn't even have the right program on the scanner, I don't know ...)
Is there another way to try to find out what the problem is or do I have to
have the transmission rebuilt again ???

Anybody had similar problems ???

Welcome to this forum! A flashing overdrive light indicates a code. I suspect that they either didn't have the proper tools to scan it, or they might have cleared the code. Did the light go off, then turn back on after leaving them?

Hi BrooklynBay

Yes and no ... He connected the scanner and no codes appeared on it so, he tried something else with it then disconnected it. Told me he just didn't know.
( That's the way it is here ... )

When I was leaving , everything was fine , as usual , and , on the highway , same thing happened .

That's why I'm trying to find out if there are other ways to diagnose a transmission so I can go to the shop and tell them to check this ... and that ... etc...
I'm trying to avoid having to rebuild the transmission again because that means another 2000$ min. here ...

thanks.
