1991 ranger XLT
:(Hi I bought a 1991 ford ranger xlt regular cab long box with the 3.0L and an automatic tranny. I tried starting it about 2 weeks ago and nothing but a click. Nothing, Tried jumping it and nothing. Then was told to jump solenoid and still nothing. Went under and tried hitting starter with hammer and nothing still. Got mad and closed hood and hood jammed shut and can't get it open.So basically the front is on jack stands hood is jammed shut and the only thing I can think is replacing solenoid then maybe starter which looks like I will have to undo exhuast. While under truck I then noticed the small wire that goes to starter seemed loose and after I touched it is was off and cannot see to put back on. Any help will be greatly appreciated.:(

the best place to start would be getting the hood to open again...

I'd start by getting under the truck and putting that wire back on. It could be as simple as that...
Then work on getting the hood open.
Once that's open, check your battery terminals for tightness/corrosion, try jumper cables, remove starter and bring to a parts store for testing...

an most dont think about checking the ground cable on the block to see if its lose or broken, have a look at that too

The thing is I can't see how to put on and the only way I think is if I take oil filter off and someone looks from top of engine down and guide me to it.Thanks

Just stopped from work at a parts store and there were a couple of guys there that told me it sounded like the ground was loose. I wouldn't be surprised everything under it is rusty the only thing new under there is 4 new shocks. Oh yeah the right rear cab mount is totally rusted through.:(
