1997 Explorer xlt 5.0
Cool sight!!!
I have been searching this sight and I'm looking for two things. First I have a 1997 Explorer with a 5.0l. I have what I think is a header leak but i'm not sure. Are Explorer known for header leaks? The other thing I read was about lifter noise. the noise I hear sounds of loud when first starts up but gets softer as the truck is driven but never goes away. You can hear it all the time under acceleration. To me it sounds like a header leak that I used to get on an old race car. Is it hard to replace the header gaskets? If it's not the headers and is the lifters how big of a job is it to change them.

Thanks
Mike

Yep all 5.0 V8 explorers have a passenger side exhaust manifold leak. Make sure you're not confusing it with lifter noise. It won't hurt anything but if it annoys you enough, there are some Ford Racing headers for your application.

BTW, welcome to the site!

My 97 5.0 V8 did not have a header leak.

I think Jason meant 99% of them do. Congrats on being in that 1%.

Mine leaked! :D

It becomes more and more clear to me that I should never have sold my '97. It was dayum near the best vehicle I have ever owned - absolutely trouble free.

Never had a tranny problem, or the header leak, or the damper door, or the idler arm, etc. etc.

Yep, I'm a moron, and my buddy got a really, really nice used truck!
