Ok guys how is everyone? I'm 19 years old and am about to start college (playing baseball w/ a scholarship) here in indiana.. D2 school. Anyway I'm new to explorers and I really don't know much about my car I just bought. I had a 94 camaro i traded in for my 1997 Explorer XLT.. Off hand my car handles great, the owners took very good care of it it's very smooth no weird noises or rattles or anything. Gas mileage is OK, not great but i can handle it with an SUV. Can anyone give me some info about my car? im sure someone has the exact same car as me. What type of problems did they have with my year? What are the ups and downs of having my year/model.. please gimme as much info as u guys can! :) the only thing i know they did is give it frequent oil changes.. and they tightened up the headers or the cam or something supposably they rocked a little on my model and all you had to do is tighten them.. other than that i don't think anything else has gone wrong..

I think first you should give us a bit more info on your truck. What engine? 4.0 OHV (says EFI on intake manifold) 4.0 SOHC (says SOHC on intake manifold cover) or the 5.0L V8? Is it 4wd or 2wd?

Welcome

there is a wealth of knowledge here. Just browse around and you'll learn all kinds of stuff.

Hey sorry about that it's a 4.0L SOHC.. It's 4wd.. (choice of Auto, 4high, 4low)

Man, your gettin around, like 10 posts in the last 4 min.

First mod for most of that generation....

Torsion Twist and Rear Shackles to get 2" lift for around $50 and throw on some 31's.

Sounds like the previous owners of your truck did either 01m01 or 00m12 on your truck earlier. This is the number 1 problem with your model truck. You may want to take it to a dealer just in case so they can run the VIN code and verify that both programs were done on your truck.

Also, take a look at the transmission fluid and make sure that it's red in color and is clean and at the proper level. The engine must be fully warmed up and you have to cycle through all the gears first to check the level properly.

How many miles on the truck now?

:D Well, I just wanted to welcome you to the site, it's a great place to hang out and learn so much and get feedback from others on any given subject, it's wonderful.:D

Brandon:eek: :bounce:

theres almost 52,000 miles on the truck. is my motor strong?.. I just hope i bought a good machine to last me through college I doubt ill put many miles on it in college..

Thank you for everyone who has welcomed me :P

Jason25 - what do those programs do and how much are they to do them?

The engine is very strong overall but unfortunately some of the parts inside are plastic and wear out quickly. That is what the two programs are for. They are free of charge under 72K miles. I think there is actually a third program relating to the rear timing chain cassette although I don't think it's free.

Jason, where would I take my car to to get those programs? I would love to see if they did it and if not i wanna get them fixed.. any ford dealer or the dealership that sold me the car? it's still under a 30day 1000 mile warranty.. but yea where do i take it for those programs

any ford dealership can tell you. you can actually call ford customer care and find out too.

and welcome to the site!
